Church Groups

Whilst the church meets as a whole on Sundays, smaller groups meet during the week, either for a specific purpose, or just to enable us to get to know each other better.

Prayer

Prayer is an essential part of our Church life. Each Sunday service is preceded by a time of prayer in the vestry to which all are welcome. One of a team of 'intercessors' leads the prayers for others during each service.

Weekly prayer meetings take place on Mondays between 8 pm and 9 pm and on Wednesdays from 7 am - 7:30 am in the Church Centre. At these meetings we pray for the needs of Church members and friends, and also for the wider needs of the City and the world. There is also a prayer chain - a group of trusted people who pass prayer needs on via the telephone.

World Mission

Jesus told his followers in chapter 28 of St Matthews Gospel to "go and make disciples of all nations". Over the years St Matthias has seen many of its members go into full-time Christian work, either in the United Kingdom or overseas. They have been obeying this command of Jesus. Their aim has been to fulfil this 'mission.' A small committee with a particular interest in furthering this mission keeps the congregation up-to-date with our contacts overseas. The Church gives a tenth of its income to this task, often referred to just as 'Mission', in addition to several one-off gifts when special needs arise. Our 'Mission' support also extends to those wanting to fulfil Jesus command in Matthew 28 in Leeds, and the rest of the UK.

Creative Ministries

Our Church building and services are greatly enhanced by various creative groups.

Flowers Group

You may have noticed the beautiful arrangements we have in the church building week by week. These are done by a creative team of people on a rota basis. Banner Group This is one of the ways we have both colour, and an inspiring message or picture making our worship meetings more meaningful. There are a group of people involved in doing this.

Drama and Dance

There isn't a fixed group for either drama or dance at the moment, but people are brought together for special events, or services. New members are always welcome to join any group.
